General Manager - Design

The role of a subsidiary General Manager is a key role in the Enable Group. We sometimes refer to our group as a Team of Teams, this is because of our structure which is made up of five companies working together to support our joint end goals. As a subsidiary General Manager, you will be leading one of these teams, collaborating with the other teams and harnessing the power of the group, so that we can make the whole greater than the sum of its parts.
The General Manager is also a vital role in the fostering of the Enable Culture and an important member of the Leadership Team within the group which works together to help support and foster this positive and rewarding corporate culture.
Leadership:
- This role is a leadership role, you will be a role model, it is expected that you will become familiar with the cultural goals and broader group strategies so that you are in a position to support the goals and strategies and model the behaviours agreed by the wider leadership team.
Culture Development:
- As a leader in the business, you will be responsible for fostering a cultural environment in your team which is in keeping with the Enable Ethos, Success Factors, Values & Behaviours, and Employee Experience. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to the future development of our culture through your involvement in the Enable Leadership Team.

- As a member of the Leadership Team in the company, support the wider leadership in high performance culture development initiatives.

Year-on-year growth:
- With support from the CEO and CFO, develop and maintain a 3-year business plan and KPI’s for Enable Design.
- Develop an organisation structure to support the 3-year plan and grow with it.
- Recruit and develop talent within your team, providing appropriate support to facilitate the development of the team in line with the business plans.
Diversify into new/growth markets:
- Seek to identify opportunities in new/growth markets in line with the wider Enable strategy.
- Develop a close relationship with the Enable opportunity pipeline so that you can prepare your team for any skill development requirements associated with new markets or new geographies.
Retain and strengthen our unique offering:
- Embrace opportunities to collaborate with group companies in the delivery of objectives.
- Seek to maintain a level of openness and agility where possible.
- Use the power of the Enable brand and help the wider team to promote and develop the brand.
Develop and maintain great customer relationships:
- Undertake business development and represent Enable Design in building new client opportunities and nurturing relationships, maintaining future work with existing customers.
- Seek feedback and willingly accept criticism as constructive and an opportunity to improve.
Deliver a lasting positive legacy to our communities:
- Encourage your team to get involved in wider company social value initiatives.
- Support the wider engineering community at Enable in the development of an engineering graduate programme.
Experience:
- This role requires >10 years relevant industry experience.
- Experience of leading a comparably sized design team is essential.
- Sectoral experience is also highly desirable.
- Experience of multi-disciplinary design in a safety critical industry is essential.
Qualifications:
- Qualified Engineer. Masters equivalent is essential.
- Chartered status with the relevant professional engineering body is highly desirable.
- People management qualification also highly desirable.
Technical skills:
- Technical proficiency in engineering design software packages, Bentley MicroStation, and BIM.
- Proficiency with MS Office is also an essential requirement for this role.
